Don't Tell Me to Slow Down 5K

Dallas, PA

The National Stuttering Association (NSA): Northeast Pennsylvania Chapter at Misericordia University is holding the 4th Annual “Don’t Tell Me to Slow Down” 5K run/walk, on Sunday, April 2nd in support of the National Stuttering Association and the nationally recognized, student-run stuttering support group on campus. The race/walk begins at 10 a.m

The “Don’t Tell Me to Slow Down’’ 5K run/walk was organized by the NSA: Northeast Pennsylvania Chapter at Misericordia University, Misericordia University’s National Student Speech-Language Hearing Association, and Students Spreading Disabilities Awareness.

In 2012, undergraduate and graduate students in speech-language pathology at Misericordia University established the first NSA-recognized stuttering support group in the region. The support group holds bi-monthly meetings on the first and third Tuesday of the month in Room 212 of John J. Passan Hall, 100 Lake St., Dallas Borough, at 7:00 p.m. The meetings are open free to the public.

The support group provides a safe and friendly atmosphere for people who stutter and those affected by stuttering. At bi-monthly meetings, people are able to meet others who stutter, share experiences, practice their speaking skills, and work on moving forward in their lives with dignity and respect. For more information about the stuttering support group, please log on to the group’s Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/NEPAstutters/ or email us at stutteringsupport@misericordia.edu.

The annual event will increase stuttering awareness, while also raising funds for NSA and the stuttering support group. Funds donated to NSA are used to produce national stuttering newsletters, brochures, booklets, and online resources. The funding also will be used to sustain the NSA’s toll-free hotline (800-WE STUTTER), chapters, workshops, conferences, research, advocacy, and continuing education related to stuttering.

Registration on the day of the event is 8:45-9:45 a.m. at Metz Field House. The event begins at 10 a.m.
